| BE THERE for
this rare event when the whole Catholic community -- parishes,
schools and organisations, religious and lay -- all assemble
together in one place to celebrate in word, music, dance and
image 2000 years of Christian history. The way of life we enjoy
in Perth owes much to the great thinkers, writers, musicians,
artists and Saints whose works were forged in the crucible of
Christianity. The music at the Great Jubilee Celebration will be spoken about for many years. The sixty-piece orchestra has been hard at work rehearsing for months, as has the 300-voice choir. The principal singers sound stunning as do the trumpeters' fanfares representing the Jubilee horn. The theatrical "Saints and Greats" segments will take us through two millennia of history. Impressive video footage (pre-recorded and live) is being displayed on the big screen. Nyoongar elder, Ben Taylor and representatives of the original inhabitants of this land will welcome us. The contribution of Catholic Education to what we enjoy in Australia today is being acknowledged as school students in uniform parade with their schools banners. Ethnic groups in national dress are representing the diversity of Australian culture today. Pilgrims to the World Youth Day in Rome will share their life changing experiences. The ceremony will conclude with Benediction and a Blessing for all present celebrated by Archbishop Hickey and Bishop Healy. |
